Autumn Adventures at HCA

The air is crisp, and the leaves are changing—fall is here! Every area at HCA is beautiful this time of year, but some areas are certainly more popular than others. So, whether you’re looking for quieter spots or somewhere well traveled, here’s your guide to enjoying the fall colours across the HCA watershed.

Quieter Areas to Enjoy

Your first thought may be to visit HCA’s most popular areas in the fall like Spencer Gorge and Dundas Valley, but there are other gems that you won’t want to miss out on this season.

Westfield Heritage Village

Enjoy a peaceful day exploring the historic village and the nearly 7 km of forested trails, perfect for taking in the vibrant fall leaves without the crowds.

Eramosa Karst

With over 7 km of trails through forests, meadows, and unique geological formations, Eramosa Karst offers peaceful views of fall’s changing colours.

Christie Lake

The Round the Lake Trail loops around Christie Lake and crosses the dam offering beautiful views along the way. Views from the causeway or the dam are especially stunning.

Valens Lake

Valens Lake’s Boardwalk Trail offers stunning fall foliage reflected on the water. Enjoy lake views from the fishing bridge and boardwalk.

Additional Areas to Enjoy

All HCA areas shine in the fall! Check out Fifty Point and Confederation Beach Park for lake views and migrating birds, or explore Fletcher Creek’s beautiful boardwalk around an old quarry.

High Visitation Areas

Both Dundas Valley and Spencer Gorge see an uptick in visitation for the fall season.

Dundas Valley

Known for its stunning fall colours, Dundas Valley has 40 km of trails. Try Headwaters or Monarch to avoid the busier Main Loop, and visit Groundhog Hill for panoramic views.

Spencer Gorge

Dundas Peak, Tew Falls, and Webster Falls offer breathtaking views of fall colours from the top of the Niagara Escarpment, but it’s a popular spot so be sure to reserve your visit in advance. Reservations are required to visit the Spencer Gorge during the fall colour season.

We hope you enjoy the fall colours at any, or all of HCA’s areas this season!
