Fifty Point Achieves Diamond Elite Rating

The marina at Fifty Point Conservation Area recently received a Diamond Elite rating from the Ontario Clean Marine Program. This is the highest honour that can be achieved under the program.

What is the Clean Marine Program?

Fifty Point is a member of the Ontario developed Clean Marine Program, designed and administered by Boating Ontario. The purpose of this program is to allow marine businesses to follow best environmental practices to reduce and prevent air, land, and water pollution.

What are the ratings?

Marinas can voluntarily join the program to participate in a 220 point assessment. Scores from the assessment are converted into an eco-rating system, ranking from Bronze, Silver, Gold,  Diamond, and Diamond Elite as the highest achievement. Audits are mandatory every four years.

How was this rating achieved?

Fifty Point already held a Diamond rating but went above and beyond to achieve the Diamond Elite rating. This last year, staff increased awareness among boaters by educating them on our environmental policies and practices. We partnered with Switch Energy Corp., a shrink wrap recycling company, to recycle all of the shrink wrap used on the boats and keep it out of the local landfill. Motion sensor lighting was also installed in our washroom facilities, and boaters received a complimentary “bilge buddy”, an oil absorbent sock which separates oil from water, so that oil can be properly disposed of.

The results…

Last August, Fifty Point’s marina underwent the Clean Marine audit and in late 2024 received the exciting news that they were awarded a Diamond Elite rating with a score of 96.91%!

HCA and Fifty Point are proud of the fact that the Clean Marine initiative has been well received by our amazing customers. Staff will continue to strive for environmental excellence and actively participate in keeping our waterways safe and clean.
