New Campground Loop at Valens Lake Conservation Area

Project Summary

A new campground loop is being added at Valens Lake Conservation Area, as identified in the 2019 Valens Lake Master Plan. The new campground is located west of the existing Cedars camp area.

The new campground loop will include 24 serviced campsites and has been designed to provide comfortable spacing between campsites.

Timeline

Preparation work for this project began on site in late fall 2025, including necessary tree removals and transplanting. Construction work to build the access road and campsites will continue through winter and spring 2026 and is weather-dependent.

Trees disturbed by construction will be replaced as part of site restoration work. It is anticipated that construction will be substantially completed by the end of spring 2026, with the campground officially opening to the public later in 2026.

Visitor Access and Impacts

Visitors may see construction equipment and activity in the area throughout the winter and spring. The parking lot for the walk-in campsites will be used by HCA staff and contractors for construction access and temporary equipment storage.

As a result, the walk-in campsites will be temporarily closed during the construction period.
