On Saturday, October 5, the Hamilton Conservation Authority (HCA) hosted the Watershed Stewards Appreciation Day at Fifty Point Conservation Area. This annual event, held in partnership with Conservation Halton (CH), celebrates the exceptional environmental stewardship efforts of local landowners. This year, a total of four recipients were presented with a 2024 Watershed Stewardship Award.
Awards are presented to landowners in both the HCA and CH watersheds who demonstrate good land stewardship practices and exemplify a commitment to maintaining and restoring natural features and watershed function on their properties. HCA and CH each presented two awards, to both urban and rural landowners. Specific efforts by the recipients included wetland restoration, invasive species removal, rain garden creation, tree planting, and floodplain restoration.
HCA and CH have recognized hundreds of local landowners over the last 30 years for their outstanding stewardship efforts. Financial support is available to those interested in becoming watershed stewards. Learn more here.
