The Hamilton Conservation Authority has a seasonal opportunity for an
Environmental Education Program Instructor
Reporting to the Outdoor Environmental Education & Program Specialist, will provide supplementary outdoor environmental education and recreation activities for school, camp and youth groups that support the Ontario Curriculum primarily in the areas of Science, Geography, Health & Physical Education. This is a contract position starting March 12, 2026, and finishing November 30, 2026.
Responsibilities
- The position will work closely with the education team to:
- Independently deliver programs to students from Kindergarten through to Grade 12
- Maintain program areas, materials and equipment
- Work closely with the education team to assist with facilitating programs to HCA summer campers, primarily aged 7-12 years old
- Assist with creation of education programming and program resources
- Support program delivery for additional education programs
Qualifications
- Graduate of a post-secondary institution in environmental sciences, geography, recreation leadership or related field
- Preference for applicants demonstrating 3+ years working with students in the delivery of outdoor education programs
- Experience organizing and leading outdoor education and/or recreation activities
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team and show responsibility for assigned work
- Practical knowledge, enthusiasm and experience in the outdoors
- Standard First Aid & CPR certification required
- Police criminal records check including Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Must have transportation to work location
Working Conditions
This position will generally work weekdays Monday to Friday and may include some evenings & weekends. Weekly hours will vary depending on the need to support the Education Specialist and the Program Coordinator, though this position will typically work 37.5 hours per week. This position reports to the Dundas Valley Education Centre, 650 Governors Road, Dundas, ON. However, the work location may change to any of HCA’s conservation areas through the year depending on business needs. Must be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather.
Work Term and Rate of Pay
This is a contract position starting March 12, 2026, and finishing November 30, 2026. The rate of pay is $20.27.
