Security Guard

The Hamilton Conservation Authority has a casual employment opportunity for a Security Guard
Fifty Point Conservation Area and Marina is approximately 85 hectares in size and is located in Stoney Creek. The property is located on the south shore of Lake Ontario and straddles the municipal boundary between Stoney Creek and Grimsby. Nearly half of the conservation area, including the campground and beach, is located within the Town of Grimsby. The conservation area features a 330-slip full-service marina, 73-site full-service campground, picnic and day use areas, a beach and a fishing pond. The park is also home to Limani Restaurant, the Fifty Point Yacht Club and the historic Ingledale House.
Under the direction of the Manager, the Security Guard is responsible for providing security and supporting general maintenance activities within Fifty Point Conservation Area and Marina. Duties include providing park security, conducting routine inspections and assisting with the maintenance of park facilities and grounds. The successful candidate will safely operate vehicles and equipment to ensure the upkeep of the Conservation Area as a safe, clean and enjoyable recreational park while supporting the protection of its natural resources. This position contributes to a safe and welcoming environment by respectfully assisting with the enforcement of applicable legislation, policies, and regulations. The role also involves engaging with visitors, responding to concerns, supporting customer service, and assisting with park operations as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Monitor visitor activity to help ensure the safety and security of visitors, staff, and park property.
• Communicate conservation area rules, regulations, and policies clearly and professionally to visitors.
• Conduct routine inspections of facilities and grounds to identify security or maintenance concerns.
• Assist with the maintenance of conservation area grounds, trails, and facilities.
• Provide courteous, professional customer service and promote positive public relations.
• Respond to visitor concerns and complaints in a respectful and effective manner.
• Operate the gatehouse and reservation system as required.
• Assist with operational duties, including cleaning washrooms, cleaning fleet vehicles, and maintaining the cleanliness of the park, marina, campground, and associated facilities.
• Keep the Park Manager and Assistant Managers informed of issues, incidents, and visitor concerns.
• Comply with all Hamilton Conservation Authority policies and procedures, including health and safety requirements, and wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain accurate logs of incidents, violations, and significant occurrences. Report serious incidents or criminal activity to the appropriate police service and report all incidents, hazards, and unsafe conditions promptly
QUALIFICATIONS
• Ability to prepare accurate incident, visitor, and security reports, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must possess a valid Ontario Security Guard Licence.
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
• Familiarity with Hamilton Conservation Authority parks, policies, and procedures is considered an asset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records.
• Must possess a valid Ontario Class G license.
• Must be able to work weekends, overnight shifts, and statutory holidays.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based at Fifty Point Conservation Area and Marina. Work is performed on an as-needed basis, with hours not exceeding 40 hours per week. Work is expected to be overnight, 10-hour shifts, four days a week. Weekend, and holiday shifts are required.
This position is expected to be available to work during periods of heavy rainfall, runoff, adverse weather conditions, and special events as operational needs require. The employee may also be assigned to other Hamilton Conservation Authority conservation areas or projects for specified periods, as directed by the Director, Conservation Area Services.
WORK TERM AND RATE OF PAY
This casual employment contract is effective from the successful candidate’s start date until December 31, 2026.
Rate of Pay: $24.27 per hour.
