Same Trails, New Experiences
While out on HCA trails, have you ever wondered about what you see, like what type of tree you’re looking at? Are those ruins? Wondering what was here before it was a conservation area? Sounds like HCA’s new trail app, Talking Forest, is just what you need!
How does it work?
While on a hike, the app will automatically play audio stories, images, and captions based on GPS location. The best part is, you don’t need to stare at your phone the whole time! Simply keep it in your pocket, and it will play once you reach a point of interest – either through your phone or headphones.
Is the app difficult to use?
No! The last thing you want to be doing is fumbling with a phone on your hike. Not to worry, the app is simple to use!
Talking Forest will show you available experiences by list or map view, and you can choose where you want to go from there. Still not sure? Click on an area, and it’ll give you a brief description and the distance of the trail.

Once you decide, simply hit “Begin Experience,” and you’re off! There’s even a little “ding” sound before you reach an interest point to let you know information is on the way.
As you walk, the black marker flags will turn red once they play. You can also tap the flag to hear the point again. If you want to view on your phone, each point includes a picture and the caption that plays.

Before starting your adventure...
The first step is to download the app to your phone. Search “Talking Forest” on Google Play or App Store. Check out this quick tutorial on how to install on your phone. Note that your location must be turned on for the app work properly on your hike. Don’t worry, the tutorial covers this step as well!
