Visitors to HCA conservation areas will now be able to experience the trails in a whole new way with the launch of the Talking Forest App. This hands-free mobile app transforms a trail walk into an engaging, interactive self-guided tour.
Using GPS, the Talking Forest App automatically activates audio stories, images, and captions as visitors move along the trails. From fascinating details about local wildlife and ecology to rich insights into history and geology, the app makes every step a chance to learn and explore.
“This is about connecting people more deeply with nature while making the trails even more enjoyable and accessible,” said Lindsay Davidson, Assistant Manager, Marketing and Communications. “The Talking Forest App turns a simple hike into an immersive learning journey for all ages, deepening connections to nature and appreciation for conservation.”
Connecting tech to nature, the Talking Forest App ensures there is something new to discover around every corner. The app currently features hikes at Christie Lake, Spencer Gorge, Valens Lake, and Westfield Heritage Village Conservation Areas and will expand to more conservation areas in the future. The voices behind the app come from HCA’s own staff, whose knowledge and passion bring a personal and welcoming touch to the experience.
The development of the Talking Forest App has been made possible through collaboration with Kawartha Conservation Authority and Ampere. Together, we have created an educational tool that enhances every visit.
The Talking Forest App is available now on Android and iOS platforms. Download it, head out on a trail, and let the adventure begin!
