Hamilton Conservation Authority (HCA) is advising boaters of reduced channel depth at Fifty Point Marina due to sediment buildup in the navigation channel from Lake Ontario. Vessels with deeper draft or keel depth may experience difficulty navigating the channel. Boaters are advised to use caution when entering and exiting the marina and be aware that channel conditions may change.
Due to permit restrictions from the Ministry of Natural Resources, in-water dredging work cannot take place between March 15 and July 15.
Dredging updated - July 6, 2026
HCA will begin dredging operations at Fifty Point Marina during the first two weeks of August, beginning the week of August 3, 2026.
This work is being undertaken to restore channel depth and improve navigation access to the marina following sediment buildup in the entrance channel.
To help reduce impacts on daytime marina operations, dredging will take place during evening and overnight hours, typically from 7 PM to 7 AM, subject to weather and site conditions.
Dredging will be completed using a barge-mounted excavator, similar to the equipment shown below. During overnight operations, the barge will be equipped with flashing warning lights, excavator work lights, and a light tower to illuminate the work area for crew safety and visibility.
Barge Set-Up
During active dredging, boaters may experience temporary navigation restrictions, reduced channel width, and minor delays when entering or exiting the marina. Boaters are asked to use caution, follow posted signage, and follow any instructions from marina staff.
Marina customers, campers, and neighbouring residents should be aware that construction lighting and equipment noise may be noticeable during the dredging period.
HCA will continue to provide updates throughout the project as required.
Dredging updated - May 13, 2026
HCA is continuing to move forward with planned dredging work for the Fifty Point Marina navigation channel at the marina entrance. The HCA Board of Directors approved the construction tender for the dredging project at its May 7 meeting, and the contract has now been awarded.
Dredging work is anticipated to take place between July 13 and August 14, pending final contractor scheduling, weather and site conditions. Staff are currently working with the contractor to confirm the detailed construction schedule and anticipated start date within this timeframe.
The April 2026 bathymetric survey map, available below for reference, illustrates current channel conditions and areas of sediment accumulation.

The marina will remain operational during construction; however, boaters should anticipate some level of disruption during the dredging period. This may include navigation constraints within the channel, equipment on site, and potential temporary delays when entering or exiting the marina.
The extent and timing of these impacts will depend on final construction planning and site conditions. HCA and the contractor will work to maintain marina access throughout the project where possible.
HCA is committed to keeping marina customers informed as details are confirmed. Updates will continue to be posted here, including any temporary restrictions, navigation guidance, or changes to marina operations.
Until dredging is completed, boaters should continue to use caution when entering and exiting the marina, particularly larger vessels or vessels requiring greater channel depth. Channel conditions may also be affected by Lake Ontario water levels.
