Fifty Point Conservation Area

Fifty Point Conservation Area is approximately 98 hectares in size and is located in Hamilton (formerly Winona). The property located on the south shore of Lake Ontario straddles the town line between Hamilton and Grimsby with almost half of the conservation area containing the campground and beach being in Grimsby.

The area is comprised of a 340-slip full-service marina, 73 site full-service campground, picnic and day use/beach areas and a fishing pond. The area is also home to the Limani Restaurant, The Fifty Point Yacht club and the Ingledale House historic residence. Staff are involved in all aspects of the maintenance and operation of the entire area.

Reporting to the Area Manager, the Conservation Area Worker is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the Marina and Conservation Area grounds in a manner that allows for safe and pleasing use for all visitors.

This position plays an important role in customer services, providing information and efficient delivery of all conservation area services and activities.

Responsibilities
  • Perform various grounds maintenance duties and daily tasks pertaining to the Campground, Marina and Conservation Area including grass cutting and trimming, tree pruning, litter control, trail maintenance, inspections, housekeeping, washroom cleaning and general maintenance
  • Demonstrate a mechanical aptitude and knowledge in operating equipment such as hand tools and chainsaws.
  • Operate HCA vehicles, including tractors, utility vehicles, mowers and equipment with utmost safety and caution as instructed and to adhere to all applicable Safe Working Procedures
  • Assist in boat lift operation
  • General customer service duties including responding to public inquiries in the field regarding facility layout, activities and conservation area rules and regulations
  • Comply with HCA Policies, Safe Working Procedures, the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ministry of Labour (MOL), Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA)
  • Keep tools and equipment properly cleaned, serviced, stored and in safe working order
  • Maintain inventory control of Dry Dock Customers as well as mast storage and cradle compound
  • Other duties as assigned to assist the team effort at Hamilton Conservation Authority at any of our areas
Qualifications
  • Minimum education of Secondary School diploma
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, coworkers, and the public
  • Be creative, flexible and capable of solving problems
  • Demonstrate initiative, efficiency, and reliability towards all jobs assigned
  • Knowledge of the HCA and the HCA owned and managed properties is a definite asset
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot problems with various types of hand tools, equipment, lawn mowers, tractors, loaders and chainsaws
  • Able to organize, clean and maintain a safe work area
  • Valid class G driver’s license
  • Pleasure Craft Operators Card
  • Good computer skills with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and POS applications
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Able to communicate effectively, including around noisy operations equipment
  • Knowledge of power and sailboats and marine equipment a definite asset
  • Experience with inventory control and record keeping a definite asset
  • Current Basic First Aid certificate, or willingness to obtain is an asset
Working Conditions

The work location is Fifty Point Conservation Area, 1479 Baseline Road, Winona, ON. This position may be assigned to work at any of HCA’s conservation or managed areas throughout the year depending on business needs to assist on either a short- or longer-term basis or at special events.

Scheduled work on weekends and holidays will be a recurring and expected aspect of the position. Additionally, the work location may change to any of HCA’s conservation or managed areas through the year depending on business needs to assist on either a short- or longer-term basis or at special events at the request of the Director of Conservation Area Services.

Work Term and Rate of Pay

This is a one (1) year contract position with an anticipated start date beginning in April 2026. The rate of pay is $20.62 per hour.
