Project Engineer
The Project Engineer will be responsible for the project management and technical review of various HCA watershed engineering projects, with a focus on wetland restoration projects, floodplain mapping, and dam repair and maintenance projects.
The Project Engineer will also assist as required with the HCA’s overall watershed engineering program.
This is a full-time position in the Hamilton Conservation Authority’s (HCA) Watershed Management Services Division, reporting to the Manager Water Resources Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Provide day to day oversight and project management for identified HCA water resources engineering and restoration projects (i.e. wetland restoration projects, floodplain mapping, and dam repair and maintenance projects).
- Review, assess and provide comment on technical reports and plans related to water resources engineering and restoration projects.
- Undertake field assessments and inspections as part of the development and implementation of assigned projects.
- As required on a project basis, complete project descriptions, tender and quotation documents to engage consultants.
- Work with project consulting team to ensure project timing, deadlines and cost requirements and reporting are met.
- Work with the Watershed Management Services Team and consulting staff as required to ensure projects approvals from Federal, Provincial and Municipal agencies are obtained.
- Ensure compliance for projects with all obtained approvals and regulatory statute requirements.
- As part of the Watershed Management Services Team, undertake and engage with stakeholders and the public to ensure awareness and understanding of project goals and benefits.
- Undertake and assist in drafting reports relating to projects undertaken and also reports to HCA Board of Directors and the advisory board regarding consultant selection, project implementation and status.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in the form of a university degree and/or college diploma specializing in water resources engineering, resources management or related environmental sciences.
- A minimum of two years experience in the project management and/or engineering associated with wetland restoration projects, floodplain mapping, and dam repair and maintenance projects.
- Understanding of principles and approaches related to hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, ecology, natural resources management, environmental impact assessment, and knowledge of watershed management and land use planning processes.
- Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation or ability to obtain designation in the near term is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Positive team player capable of self-directed, independent work.
- Ability to work outdoors to conduct project overview and field investigations in variable terrain and weather conditions.
- Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office software suite including database management (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), and experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Possess a valid Ontario driver’s license.
Working Conditions
The work location will primarily be at HCA’s main office location at 838 Mineral Springs Road, Ancaster, ON. However, time will also be required to be spent in the field on HCA-owned lands and other properties, and in all types of weather conditions. Working hours will total 37.5 per week, Monday through Friday inclusive.
Salary
This is a full-time position. The position offers a salary range of $74,367 to $86,211 commensurate with experience and education. Progression will be based on merit and is reviewed annually. Additionally, this position is eligible for yearly cost-of-living adjustments (COLA).
