The Sweet Taste of Spring Fever! Maple Syrup Festival 2017
Dates: Sundays in March: 5, 12, 19, 26
March Break days Wednesday March 15 and Thursday March 16
Time: Runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Come and see both traditional and modern methods for making maple syrup and then try some delicious, reasonably priced pancakes sold by the St. George Lion’s Club at the Ironwood Hall!
The Maple Syrup Festival at Westfield is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and to learn about maple syrup and about Ontario’s history. Bring a friend or the whole family! Tours and demonstrations run throughout the day and there are free horse drawn wagon rides available.
“Many don’t realise how much work is involved in the traditional techniques used to make maple syrup in Canada,” says Brown. “Our festival is great opportunity to see those early methods alongside the easier, faster and more modern methods. And it’s all really yummy!”
Visitors can enjoy visiting more than 35 historic buildings, staffed by Westfield’s authentically costumed interpreters. Warm up by a roaring fire or by a cozy wood stove and learn about local history and Ontario’s past. A short, picturesque walk through the sugar bush leads to a modern sugar shack where you can taste some of Westfield’s very own maple syrup produced in a modern evaporator. Visit the Gift Shop for a wide selection of maple products, including syrup, fudge, teas and candies. You won’t want to miss a visit to the General Store where you can purchase old fashioned sweet treats.
