Conservation Areas Summer Employment

Join our team this summer and contribute to the environment and your community.

Life in the outdoors is always fun and our conservation areas are preparing for their 2018 operations. This is your chance to learn about Hamilton Conservation Authority (HCA) and make a contribution to its success. We have a variety of opportunities to choose from at our conservation areas / parks/ facilities, for students, seniors and adults, including gate attendants, grounds maintenance, lifeguards, food services and security.

Work in a fun, outdoor environment. We offer training for all positions. The majority of our openings are full-time seasonal positions for the summer and applicants must be available to work weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and holidays as required and scheduled as these are some of our busiest days for the public.

If you enjoy working with people, are active and outgoing, please review the opportunities listed below that we have available at our conservation areas and apply via email or fax with our application form and resume. Applications are now being accepted, so apply today! All staff (both new and returning) will be required to attend a mandatory orientation / training session.

Opportunities available at all of our Conservation Areas:

Valens Lake, Christie Lake (which includes Spencer Gorge), Dundas Valley, Confederation Beach Park and Fifty Point

Click positions below for more information.

Grounds Maintenance

Maintenance staff are required, with various levels of skills and experience, at all areas. These positions assist in the maintenance of the grounds and pool / beach areas, including collecting litter, cleaning washrooms, cutting grass, operating small power equipment, including weed-whips, leaf-blowers and pressure-washers. A few positions will also involve trail maintenance, where background with tree-pruning and forestry is preferred.  Experience driving pick-up trucks and landscape trailers is considered an asset for positions in the Dundas Valley. Positions in some of our Conservation Areas will also require a valid class G driver’s license. Starting rate is minimum wage.

Licensed Security Staff

Security staff are required at Valens Lake and Fifty Point and additional duties such as grounds maintenance, janitorial and other jobs as required are part of the position. The majority of work is evenings/nights with some daytime shifts. Applicants must possess their private security license as mandated by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and previous work experience. Wage is $15.00.

Cashiers/Attendants

We require cashiers and gate attendants at all areas (except Confederation Beach Park). Duties include collecting park admission, engaging customers and visitors with information on our annual vehicle pass, registering campers (at areas with campsites), boat and canoe rentals and general public relations. Attendants are responsible for handling money, tickets and cards, therefore, quick and accurate transactions are required to maintain our high service standards. Starting rate is minimum wage.

Food/Concession Services

All of our Conservation Areas (except Confederation Beach Park) have food concessions where the public can purchase ready-made sandwiches, water/pop, ice-cream and other convenience store type items. These positions will prepare (if required) and serve food, in compliance with Ontario Health regulations. Starting rate is minimum wage.

Lifeguards

Only at Confederation Beach Park, for Lakeland pool.

All applicants must be 16 years or older and require a current National Lifeguard Service certificate, CPR (Level C or HCP), Standard First Aid and meet fitness requirements. Applicants not currently NLS certified who are taking an NLS course are invited to apply. Wage is $15.00.
