Restoration work along Lower Spencer Trail

HCA staff will be conducting invasive species management along Lower Spencer trail. Staff will be continuing invasive Phragmites control along the Lower Spencer trail and Cootes Dr. trail. This will be the second year for management efforts. Work is scheduled to begin during last two weeks in September. Works will include herbicide application. Please note the trails will remain open and “Pesticide in Use” signs will be installed during application.

In addition to the invasive species management, HCA will also be installing a permanent wildlife directional fence along 700m stretch of Cootes Dr. trail. This fence will replace the temporary silt fence that have been installed since 2014. Qualified contractors and HCA staff will be on site during the installation works, which is scheduled to occur during week of September 19th. Please note a portion of the vegetation along the trail will be mowed for access. Trail will remain open during this project.

For more information about the work being completed, please see our information factsheet.
