Westfield Heritage Village
Members of the recreated Upper Canada Militia and the 89th Regiment of Foot will be training at Westfield Heritage Village on Sunday, April 22 from 12:30 – 4:00 pm.
When the Americans attacked Canada in 1812, all Canadian men between sixteen and sixty had to be ready to take up arms to defend their country against the invaders. They reinforced the British Forces and successfully repelled multiple attacks for 3 years.
This spring red coated soldiers from the recreated 89th Regiment from Britain will be helping to train the citizen soldiers to become an effective fighting force.
They will be practicing early 19th century battle drill, manoeuvres, and tactics. There will be demonstrations of black powder musketry. The uniforms they wear and the weapons they use, are exactly the same as the Canadian and British soldiers in the War of 1812.
Members of the public are welcome to visit Westfield Heritage Village on the 22nd and witness the soldiers practice. Members of the re-enactment groups will be pleased to answer questions and discuss 1812 era battle tactics.
HCA Members receive free entry into Westfield’s public programming, for 6 people, including a maximum of 2 adults.
