Rifle Range Property
Please join Field and Stream Rescue Team as we assist the Hamilton Conservation Authority and the Dundas Valley 50 Year Vision in restoring habitat at the Rifle Range Prairie. The prairie, located off Paddy Greene Road in the Dundas Valley, recently underwent a controlled burn this spring and is being rehabilitated back into a productive and vibrant ecosystem.
We will be doing seed collection of prairie plant species, removal of invasive species and gathering dead wood from this year’s controlled prairie burn to create brush piles for species inhabiting the area such as the Eastern Milksnake, designated federally and provincially as a species of special concern. Come and lend a hand while working in an incredibly rare habitat for Southern Ontario!
The meeting point will be at the entrance to the prairie, half way between Power Line Rd and Jerseyville Rd W. The space for parking is limited so if possible please carpool, we can assist with connecting to other volunteers.
Please wear appropriate apparel, footwear and bring a reusable water bottle, as well as gloves if you’ve got them. Light refreshments will be provided.
