Grounds Maintenance Worker


Westfield Heritage Village is a Living History Museum comprised of over forty historic buildings relocated onto a rural, five hundred and fifty acre site. It is owned and managed by the Hamilton Conservation Authority.


Job Summary:
We are accepting applications to fill two positions for Summer Grounds Maintenance. The position has a planned duration of eight weeks beginning any time after June 1st, 2018 and ending as late as August 26th, 2018. Exact dates within that range are dependent on the availability of the successful applicant. The position’s physical requirements include: moderate lifting, operation of gasoline powered tools and use of ladders. The majority of the work takes place in an outdoor environment.


Job Duties: 

  • Nature trails planning, assessment and maintenance
  • Heritage gardens and landscaping, lawn maintenance
  • Conservation and restoration of heritage buildings including painting/carpentry
  • Identify and repair historic windows/glazing
  • Accessibility improvement renovations
  • Health and safety program support.
  • Special event set up and clean up.

Qualifications:
The successful candidates must have attended school full time in 2017/18 and be returning to school for 2018/19 and be eligible for a position funded by Canada Summer Jobs. They need not have completed a degree or certificate program. A methodical approach and a positive attitude are essential. Work or personal experience with landscaping, light carpentry and painting is an asset. A G2 driver’s license is required.


Income & Hours of Work: 
The rate of pay is $14.00 per hour based on a 30 hour work week. The work location is based out of 1049 Kirkwall Road, Rockton, ON. Hours of work generally fall between 8am – 5:00 pm based on a 30-hour workweek, Monday through Friday. Occasionally, weekend or evening work may be required to assist with events.
